Stem Cell Research

In today's NYTimes article concerning the President's view on Stem Cell research: http://www.nytimes.com/2005/05/20/politics/20cnd-bush.html?hp&ex=1116648000&en=95e130247f8aa7be&ei=5094&partner=homepage
it is perplexing what his position is. A direct quote:
"I am a strong supporter of stem cell research, but I've made very clear to Congress that the use of federal taxpayer money to promote science that destroys life in order to save life, I am against this," said Mr. Bush.
Sounds like our President in his infinite wisdom is using the 'flip-flop' routine we heard so much about during the campaign.
It is simple, where the U.S. will drag it's feet in research the European medical community will move forward and Americans in the coming decades will be forced to travel overseas for medical treatment that could easily have been pioneered at home.
